January 21, 2025<\/strong> will be processed under previous criteria.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Already approved open work permits remain valid if unexpired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New applications must comply with the updated eligibility rules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Eligibility_Criteria_for_the_Principal_Applicant\"><\/span>Eligibility Criteria for the Principal Applicant<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Youre_a_Temporary_Foreign_Worker_Who_Applied_for_Permanent_Residence\"><\/span>You\u2019re a Temporary Foreign Worker Who Applied for Permanent Residence<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may sponsor your family if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You hold a <strong>valid or approved work permit<\/strong> (open or employer-specific).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your work permit is valid for <strong>at least 6 months<\/strong> after your family applies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You live and work in Canada.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your permit was issued due to applying for a <strong>permanent residence economic program or pilot<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Youre_on_a_PR_Pathway_but_Havent_Applied_Yet\"><\/span>You\u2019re on a PR Pathway but Haven\u2019t Applied Yet<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You and your family may qualify if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You have a valid or approved work permit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your work permit is valid for <strong>at least 6 months<\/strong> after application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You work in a <strong>TEER 4 or 5 (low-skilled) occupation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019re on a pathway to PR.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You live or plan to live in Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Work_Permit_Holders_Under_the_Agri-Food_Pilot\"><\/span>Work Permit Holders Under the Agri-Food Pilot<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may sponsor your family if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You meet the five requirements above.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have an <strong>LMIA-based work permit<\/strong> in the agriculture or low-wage stream.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ve received an <strong>Acknowledgment of Receipt<\/strong> for your PR application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Work_Permit_Holders_Under_a_Free_Trade_Agreement_FTA\"><\/span>Work Permit Holders Under a Free Trade Agreement (FTA)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spouses or partners may be eligible for spousal open work permits under certain FTAs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If ineligible under FTA, they may qualify under this measure if other criteria are met.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Family_Member_Eligibility_Requirements\"><\/span>Family Member Eligibility Requirements<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Family members must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be your <strong>spouse, common-law partner, dependent child, or grandchild<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet general work permit eligibility criteria.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dependent children cannot be the principal applicant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Residency_Status_in_Canada\"><\/span>Residency Status in Canada<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To apply from within Canada, they must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have valid temporary resident status; OR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have applied to extend their status (maintained status); OR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be eligible for restoration of status as a visitor, worker, or student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"High-Skilled_Workers_Not_on_PR_Pathway\"><\/span>High-Skilled Workers (Not on PR Pathway)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of January 21, 2025:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Only <strong>spouses or common-law partners<\/strong> of high-skilled workers may be eligible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dependent children and their children are no longer eligible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Additional_Requirements_for_High-Skilled_Workers\"><\/span>Additional Requirements for High-Skilled Workers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hold a valid work permit, an approval, or authorization to work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have work authorization valid for <strong>16 months<\/strong> after your spouse or partner applies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Live or plan to live in Canada.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be employed in:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li
